Join us for Women Build Day(s)
What is Women Build?
It’s a volunteer program for women who want to learn construction skills, build and refurbish homes, and improve communities. Women Build brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. Women Build events have helped to construct more than 1,900 houses for families in need.
We are building a Women Build home right here in Amarillo!
Construction began in March of 2012 on our most recent Women Build home. This house will become a home for a
family who has been in the United States for 6 years. Gaspar, Antoinette, and their children escaped the holocaust in Rwanda, lived in refugee camps for several years and finally made it to Amarillo! They are excited about their new home.
Our Women Build home is located at 2801 S. Houston, within sight of Glenwood Park. Bank of America has
generously sponsored ½ of this home with the kind support of businesses and people throughout our community
funding the other half.
Each year, we will build another Women Build home. Our Women Build committee meets year-round to plan the
events surrounding each build. We would love for you to join us! If you’re interested in a rewarding experience working with great women on a very worthwhile project, please give us a call (806) 383-3456.
Volunteer with Women Build - No Experience Necessary
If you don’t have construction skills, don’t worry! Many women come to Women Build sites with no experience at all and still make a great impact. Training is provided and we can promise a very fun and fulfilling experience for you!
You can get involved with Women Build and never enter a construction site. Give us a call at (806) 383-3456 to see how you can be a part!
Women Build Week
Each year, the week prior to Mother’s Day is celebrated as Women Build Week. We encourage women all over the
community to come out and volunteer with us that week. Call (806) 383-3456 for details!
Lowe’s helps Women Build keep the momentum going
Lowe’s is a major sponsor and underwriter of Women Build and has generously supported our efforts for many years. Lowe’s sponsors National Women Build Week each year, provides competitive grant opportunities and offers free how-to clinics for U.S. Women Build affiliates.
This year, Amarillo Habitat for Humanity received a $5,000 Lowe’s store gift card. These cards are awarded annually to approximately 250 Habitat affiliates! We are thankful to Lowe’s for their support.
Support Women Build and open new doors of opportunities for low-income families in our community. Be a part of the solution, helping us in our endeavor to eliminate substandard housing in our area.
